Assistance to Shelter Act

CMHA Kelowna raises several concerns about the recently introduced Assistance to Shelter Act. The Act says that the bill proposes to allow police powers to compel people sleeping on the streets under conditions of extreme weather to go to a shelter.
At CMHA Kelowna we have serious concerns about this Act.

Willowbridge

CMHA Kelowna will operate a supportive housing project providing 40 studio units for people on limited incomes, experiencing barriers to finding housing. The City of Kelowna has leased the land on the corner of Boyce Crescent and Pandosy Avenue to the Province of BC for 60 years. The funds to build the building are being provided by BC Housing and CMHA Kelowna has been selected to oversee the building and manage the ongoing program. It is anticipated that the building will be operational by the Fall 2010. More about Willowbridge.
