Mental Health Promotion


Our goal is to make information available to our community and increase awareness about mental health and mental illness and to reduce stigma and discrimination of people experiencing mental illness and their families.

Mental Health Promotion is involved in:

  • Media Relations

Public education

Mental health workshops and presentations to:

  • Elementary schools, high schools, university
  • Community agencies and health care providers working with with individuals & families, and children & youth
  • Businesses
  • The general public 

New in 2009 is the Knowledge is Power Series; 4 forums on mental health & mental illness related topics in collaboration with experts from other agencies and open to the general public.

Events

Mental Health Voices Breakfast as part of the Mental Illness Awareness Week in October: 

The Mental Health Voices Award is given to an individual who has shown courage, raised awareness, or encouraged acceptance and help for people with mental illness. Last year the recipient was Matthew Good, one of Canada's most successful artists.

Beyond the Blues: a Depression and Anxiety Screening day, in 2008 hosted and organized by CMHA in partnership with UBC Okanagan.
